COMING HOME TO YOUR SELF
A Sacred Journey to Peru
Genevieve Rivera & Prema Posner
5 Days, 6 Nights Yoga Retreat
Magical Sacred Valley
May 18 - 23, 2020
Join Genevieve and Prema for an all-inclusive, once in a lifetime, unforgettable, yoga adventure in Peru's Sacred Valley. This is the land of magic, magnificence, inner peace and adventure. This trip will change your life forever. Peru is considered to be one of the 7 wonders of the world and is known as a bio-energetic center of great magnetic power and healing. Ancient Peruvians, just like ancient Yogis, embrace the Divinity of Nature. Peru and its indigenous cultures are rooted in spirituality.
We will stay in the Munay Sonqo Retreat and Yoga Center located in the Sacred Valley, surrounded by the majestic Andes mountains, nestled in an oasis of native plants and fruit trees and nourished by a magnificent waterfall. It is a place to connect to the incredible depth and beauty of what nature offers.
Three delicious meals with locally-grown and lovingly prepared ingredients will be served daily. Each guest room is a reflection of the Peruvian culture of the Sacred Valley. You have the option to stay in single or shared rooms. There is also the option to stay in adorable Teepees for those who are on a budget.
Our week together begins with a traditional Peruvian Despacho Ceremony, an ancient Shamanic ritual to heal, restore balance, connect us to nature, the elements and the Spirit World.
We will start each day by practicing in the center's gorgeous glass Yoga Shala, with views of the valley and Surrounding mountains. We will balance specific Chakras with a combination of Gentle Morning Yoga, Breathwork, Meditation, Sound Healing and Mantra. In the evenings, we will share either Restorative Yoga, Meditation, or Special Ceremonies to include a Sound Ceremony and Kirtan (chanting circle).
We will explore ancient sites in the Sacred Valley including the Pisac Ruins, the colorful Pisac Market and Tipon Water Temple & Ruins. These excursions will be led by experienced guides and shamans.
PISAC MARKET & PISAC RUINS
The Pisac ruins are among Peru’s most intact ancient sites, and a perfect example of ingenious Inca architecture. They are built on top of a mountain that towers over the small town of Pisac; the views of the countryside are spectacular and the ruins and their makers are remarkable. They’ll be the highlight of your trip to the Sacred Valley, and the charming, hippy town of Pisac filled with beautiful crystal and textile stores will inspire some creative shopping.
TIPON WATER TEMPLE & RUINS
Tipón, is a sprawling ritual garden, and not simply yet another Inca terrace you will see all over the Sacred Valley. Verdant terrace upon verdant terrace forms a spiritual garden tempting the gods to partake in the agricultural feast. And presumably, exactly this has been the intent of the Incas, who build the ingenious system of precise terraces interconnected by gargling water channels. Tipon’s terraces were built to channel natural energy, right into the fields and crops.
MUNAY SONQO MESA
This area is situated at the top eastern corner of the property with open views of the surrounding mountains and sacred rock formations. Paths and benches provide lovely areas to enjoy the property, gardens, water features, and the expanse of sun and sky above. - Machu Picchu: This excursion can be organized for either before or after our week together. Machu Picchu is an Incan citadel set high in the Andes Mountains in Peru, above the Urubamba River valley. Built in the 15th century and later abandoned, it’s renowned for its sophisticated dry-stone walls that fuse huge blocks without the use of mortar, intriguing buildings that play on astronomical alignments and panoramic views. Its exact former use remains a mystery.
Scoliosis and asthma were the physical challenges that initially drew me to yoga. Numbness and distrust were the emotional challenges I encountered on my mat. These challenges keep me honest, showing me when I'm neglecting my self-care, they flare back up as reminders to listen to my body and heart. I am grateful for these challenges as they allow me to empathize and connect to students dealing with their own issues. Challenges are some of my best teachers. I encourage students to explore their challenges, leaning into them with loving compassion and curiosity to see what lessons they hold.
I share the discipline of yoga as a platform or tool for transformation. I believe yoga offers students a chance to cultivate awareness and in turn use that awareness to make conscious choices about how they breathe, move and think. The practice of yoga allows us to acknowledge, refine and balance how we show up physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
I weave elements from the many limbs of yoga along with my life lessons and my experience as an orthopedic sports massage therapist to offer my students the tools they need to move through life with more flexibility and grace. My background is based in the Ashtanga-Vinyasa lineage. After 11 years of teaching my evolution is leading me to blend more therapeutic aspects into my classes, thus creating an environment for trauma release and self-care.
